Presented by Mary Geil to Jacob Geil Virginia
I have penned an Emblem
of true love that has no End
crossing winding Turning twisting
in and out Never ceasing
turning Round about you
see its Lines and Crosses there so
A Beauty proves to be a snare
for by the influence of true love
I find men are Bereaved of heart and mind
So fairest creature look with pitty Down
and do not on A faithful faithful Servant frown
But Pardon him that Doth thy love desire
and doth Delight thy beauty to admire
for So my dear
but Let thy good Shine in beams of Comfort
from a pensive mind that my ravished Soul
Raised by thy Smiles may Pass to rurals Bliss
forgetting of its toils that true love may be Still
in blissful action and Ever be tending to perfection
So then these crosses in the knot of love will be disdained
when we so truly love
when though (thou?) hearest this crossing winding line
be pleased to keep it And preserve thine
nor Let A Craving Eaching Ear Be pleased with hearing
how my mind to the have cast
that true love is not for Jacob Geil
1 When first I herd my fair one, Sweetly Say
2 She has undesigned Stole my heart away
3 By One She has now to much since I have none
4 I will begg of her to Change or else Return my own
Remember me when far away
Remember me the parting day
Remember me when love is sweet
Remember me till next we meet

THE LAST SLANDERS OF THE BOLTERS Nailed to the Counter!
A week or more ago, I heard that my enemies here, the enemies of the Conservative party, intended procuring a statement from one Joe Williams, a negro. I heard its purport. In the office of the Virginia Hotel last week, in the presence of Mr. Sale, one of the proprietors, and many others, Mr. Crane said he never had written me in his life, and never talked a word on politics to me.
Joe Williams’ satatement is a falsehood from beginning to end. He is on his sick bed, and his physician, Dr. Hill, says up to the evening before he gave the statement he was so prostrate in body and mind that he was incapable of giving an intelligent account of anything. He saw him again on Sunday morning, and he was rational.
Woodson sneaked up to his cabin on Saturday night, called in two witnesses, and there took down the evidence of a low mean negro to influence the freemen of the 6th District.
The negro is my enemy because, as he said, I had no confidence in negroes, and Woodson is my enemy. There they were, in the dark hours of night—“black spirits and white spirits”—concocting evidence to influence the white freemen of this District. The following card shows Joe Williams to be my enemy :
“I certify that Joe. Williams told me he was mad at Judge Harris because the Judge said he had no confidence in negroes.
“A. W. Helphenstine.” .
Mr. Helphenstine is a young man of good character.
J. H. Wartmann, Editor Register.
A week or more ago I was told they were trying to get such a certificate from Joe. I said it was hard enough to bear the lies of white men, but if Joe certifies any such lie I would cane him, but I sent no message, as this shows :
“Judge Harris sent no message by me to Joe Williams, but I informed him of what Judge Harris had said. W. O. Hill, M. D.”
This proves Joe. lies.
It only remains for me to say that Joe Williams' whole statement is a falsehood, and that he is mean enough, but better than Woodson, who tries to influence white people by “negro evidence.”
This statement is on a par with the article purporting to be from the Washington Chronicle. It is not Editorial, but written here by one of the same set, and then copied by them into a circular. So with the “Rebel Crusher.” I never entertained or uttered such a sentiment in my life, and it is a falsehood from beginning to end, and I will expose them at Woodstock to-day, when I speak.
I appeal to the Conservative party to stand by their nominee! Rebuke these traitors to their cause! Preserve the party, and consign low personal enemies to oblivion!
JNO. T. HARRIS.
Since writing the above I spoke to an immense crowd in Woodstock. I called for the author of the charge that I had said ‘‘we had the rebels under our feet, &c.” The name of Michael Sarbaugh, a stranger to me, was given. I called for him in the crowd. He came, and below is his statement. Then amid the shouts of one thousand voices I gave the lie to the charge and proved it.— So with the Chronicle article. Mr. James, the reputed author, was present. He answered he had not written a line for that paper in 15 months.— So that falsehood was also exposed. Read the evidence of respectable gentlemen on this subject:
“We certify that Judge Harris to-day called for and demanded the author of the charge, ‘Now that we have the rebels down, we will keep them down, etc.’ The name of Michael Saurbaugh was given. He came forward and said it was false; that certain parties asked him to say so, but he refused, and that Watkins James denied having written an article for the Chronicle.

This oil acts as a stimulant, diuretic, discutient and an expectorant. It is highly beneficial in shortness of breath, consumption of the lungs, coughs, indigestion, chronic rheumatism, sciatic pains, backache, and ulcers of the lungs.
Externally it is principally recommended against pains and aches, paralytic complaints, chilblains, rheumatism, bruises, strains, burns and scalds. It is also a very useful remedy in contractions and swelling of the limbs, ulcers, old sores, lameness, inflammation, St. Anthony’s fire, leprosy, tetters, ringworms, warts, shingles and moles on the skin.
Directions for using this oil.
In internal affections a grown person can take a tea-spoonful on a bit of sugar, in wine or in herb tea. Children can take three times as many drops as they are years old. A dose may be taken every morning and evening.
In pains, aches, paralytic complaints, chilblains, rheumatism, contractions and lameness of the limbs, leprosy, tetters, and ringworms, the affected parts are to be bathed every morning and evening, with some of this oil, before the fire, until a sufficient quantity is absorbed. In bruises, strains, burns, scalds, swellings of the limbs, inflammations, St. Anthony's fire and shingles, the affected parts are to be anointed with some of this oil, with the aid of a feather every two or three hours, or oftener if necessary. Warts and moles of the skin are to be well anointed with this oil, after which a hot iron is to be held near the affected part, in order to cause the oil to penetrate into the skin. In this manner it is to be used every night before going to rest, until they are removed.

PILULAE ALOES COMPOSITAE.
Compound Pills of Aloes.
These pills are well adapted to keep the bowels regular. They act as a gentle laxative, and restore the tone and action of the stomach and bowels. They may be used without any restriction as to diet or drink.
A child of one to five years old, may take half a pill; from five to ten years old, one pill ; from ten to fifteen years, two pills; and persons over fifteen, three pills.
The most suitable time for taking these pills, is at night, before going to rest ; unless it should interfere with other medicines, to be taken at night ; in which case, they may be taken for the first thing in the morning; and afterwards, breakfast eaten as usual. They may be taken in fresh water, milk, apple-butter, bread, syrup of any kind, or in any thing palatable, in which they can be swallowed.
They may be taken every day, so as to keep the bowels regular, until they are all used, or until they are no longer necessary. Should they cause the bowels to become too loose, smaller doses may be taken, or they may be omitted a few days. Should they, if taken according to the above doses, not keep the bowels regular, or moderately loose, the doses may be gradually enlarged, until the dose is ascertained which will have the desired effect.
