Wayland, Harrisonburg, Virginia. It is quoted on pages 35, 36 of Wayland's "The German Element of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia," published in 1907, but the names appended are not accurately given. The author at that time had not seen the original or this photostat copy.

Transcription of the handwritten document:

To the Hon,ble William Gooch, Esq. Lieutenant Governor & Commander in Chief of this Colony, And to the Honourable his Majesties Council —

The petition of the Subscribers humbly Shews
That About four years past they purchased five thousand Acres of land of one Jacob Stover & paid him a great Sum of money for the same Amounting to Upwards of four hundred pounds, that yr. petitioners were informed & believed sd. Stover had a good right & title to the said land, that Immediately after the sd. Purchase they sold all their lands & Sevrl other things in the County of Lancaster & Province of Pennsylvania where they then lived & came & Seated on the land they had bought of the sd. Stover, And Cleared Sevrl Plantations & made Great Improvements thereon, Since which they have been Informed that the sd. land (known by the name of Masanutting) is Claimed by one William Beverley Gent, & the sd. Beverley hath brought suit agst. the sd. Stover for the same, in the Honble. the Generall Court.

Yr. Petitioners further Shew that Should the sd. Beverley recover the sd. land that he will turn yr. petrs. out of Doors or Oblige them to give much more for their lands & plantations than they are worth, Which will Intirely ruin yr. peters. And yr. petrs. cannot recover anything again, of the sd. Stover to make them Amends for the Loss of their said Lands, plantations, &c. he being very poor, And Daily Expected to Runaway.

Wherefore yr. Petitioners humbly hope, that as they are not Privy to any fraud done by the sd. Stover in Obtaining the sd. land, & yr. petrs. being Dutchmen & not Acquainted with the laws here concerning lands, & Imagined the sd. Stovers right to be good, & have Run the hazard of their lives & Estates, in removing from Pennsylvania to the sd. land being above two hundred Miles, & at a time when there was very few Inhabitants in them parts of Sherrando & they frequently Visited by the Indians, And at this time yr. peters. have Nine plantations & fifty one people old & Young thereon, & Expect to have two more Familys to seat on the sd. land this Spring (none of which are any of the persons the sd. Stover Swore was on the sd. land, when he obtained the sd. patent, as yr. peters. have been Informed) nor did yr. petrs. hear of the sd. Beverleys claiming the said land, till they had made plantations thereon, And yr. petrs. have also paid his Majesties Quit-rents for the sd. land ever since they bought the sd. Land of the sd. Jacob Stover that Your Honrs. taking all & Singular the premises into yr. Barbara Biri was born the 12th of March 1795 in the sign
of the Archer. The father is Johannes Biri and the mother
Barbara, born Kagi. Remain devout and keep yourself right,
for such will lead to the light. Man knows the day of his
birth, but the hour of his death is hidden.
Written the 15th of April in Rockingham County, Virginia, 1810.

Presented by Mary Geil to Jacob Geil Virginia
I have penned an Emblem
of true love that has no End
crossing winding Turning twisting
in and out Never ceasing
turning Round about you
see its Lines and Crosses there so
A Beauty proves to be a snare
for by the influence of true love
I find men are Bereaved of heart and mind
So fairest creature look with pitty Down
and do not on A faithful faithful Servant frown
But Pardon him that Doth thy love desire
and doth Delight thy beauty to admire
for So my dear
but Let thy good Shine in beams of Comfort
from a pensive mind that my ravished Soul
Raised by thy Smiles may Pass to rurals Bliss
forgetting of its toils that true love may be Still
in blissful action and Ever be tending to perfection
So then these crosses in the knot of love will be disdained
when we so truly love
when though (thou?) hearest this crossing winding line
be pleased to keep it And preserve thine
nor Let A Craving Eaching Ear Be pleased with hearing
how my mind to the have cast
that true love is not for Jacob Geil
1 When first I herd my fair one, Sweetly Say
2 She has undesigned Stole my heart away
3 By One She has now to much since I have none
4 I will begg of her to Change or else Return my own
Remember me when far away
Remember me the parting day
Remember me when love is sweet
Remember me till next we meet

OLEUM SENECAE
Seneka Oil.
This oil acts as a stimulant, diuretic, discutient and an expectorant. It is highly beneficial in shortness of breath, consumption of the lungs, coughs, indigestion, chronic rheumatism, sciatic pains, backache, and ulcers of the lungs.
Externally it is principally recommended against pains and aches, paralytic complaints, chilblains, rheumatism, bruises, strains, burns and scalds. It is also a very useful remedy in contractions and swelling of the limbs, ulcers, old sores, lameness, inflammation, St. Anthony’s fire, leprosy, tetters, ringworms, warts, shingles and moles on the skin.
Directions for using this oil.
In internal affections a grown person can take a tea-spoonful on a bit of sugar, in wine or in herb tea. Children can take three times as many drops as they are years old. A dose may be taken every morning and evening.
In pains, aches, paralytic complaints, chilblains, rheumatism, contractions and lameness of the limbs, leprosy, tetters, and ringworms, the affected parts are to be bathed every morning and evening, with some of this oil, before the fire, until a sufficient quantity is absorbed. In bruises, strains, burns, scalds, swellings of the limbs, inflammations, St. Anthony's fire and shingles, the affected parts are to be anointed with some of this oil, with the aid of a feather every two or three hours, or oftener if necessary. Warts and moles of the skin are to be well anointed with this oil, after which a hot iron is to be held near the affected part, in order to cause the oil to penetrate into the skin. In this manner it is to be used every night before going to rest, until they are removed.

PILULAE ALOES COMPOSITAE.
Compound Pills of Aloes.
These pills are well adapted to keep the bowels regular. They act as a gentle laxative, and restore the tone and action of the stomach and bowels. They may be used without any restriction as to diet or drink.
A child of one to five years old, may take half a pill; from five to ten years old, one pill ; from ten to fifteen years, two pills; and persons over fifteen, three pills.
The most suitable time for taking these pills, is at night, before going to rest ; unless it should interfere with other medicines, to be taken at night ; in which case, they may be taken for the first thing in the morning; and afterwards, breakfast eaten as usual. They may be taken in fresh water, milk, apple-butter, bread, syrup of any kind, or in any thing palatable, in which they can be swallowed.
They may be taken every day, so as to keep the bowels regular, until they are all used, or until they are no longer necessary. Should they cause the bowels to become too loose, smaller doses may be taken, or they may be omitted a few days. Should they, if taken according to the above doses, not keep the bowels regular, or moderately loose, the doses may be gradually enlarged, until the dose is ascertained which will have the desired effect.
