To any Legally Authorized Minister of the Gospel:
These are to license and permit you to join together in the holy estate of Matrimony, according to the laws of Virginia,
William Spitzer and Eliza Watkins
and for so doing this shall be your sufficient warrant.
Given under my hand, this 22nd day of March 1854

Certificate to be returned to the Clerkâs Office within two months after the marriage is solemnised.
